Plaza de Armas: It is the heart of Cusco and the central point of the city. The square is surrounded by historic buildings, including Cusco Cathedral and the Church of the Society of Jesus. Take the time to admire the colonial architecture and relax on the benches in the square.
Cusco Cathedral: Located in the Plaza de Armas, the cathedral is one of the city’s most important attractions. Construction began in 1559 and took almost 100 years to complete. The interior is stunning, with golden altars, paintings, and religious artworks.
Qorikancha (Temple of the Sun): This is an ancient Inca temple dedicated to the sun cult. During the Inca period, the temple was covered in gold and filled with treasures. Today, only the foundations remain, but you can still appreciate the original Inca architecture, which was incorporated into a Dominican convent.
Sacsayhuamán: Located on the hills above Cusco, this Inca fortress is one of the most impressive structures in the region. The enormous stones used in its construction fit together precisely without mortar. The panoramic view of Cusco from the top of Sacsayhuamán is spectacular.
San Pedro Market: For an authentic experience, visit San Pedro Market. There you will find a variety of local products, including fresh fruits, vegetables, textiles, crafts, and more. It is a great place to buy souvenirs and try Peruvian cuisine.
San Blas Neighborhood: Known as the artisans’ district, San Blas is famous for its cobblestone streets, colonial houses, and local artist shops. Explore the art galleries, craft stores, and charming cafes in the neighborhood.
Inca Museum: If you are interested in Inca history, the Inca Museum is a must-visit. The museum houses an extensive collection of Inca artifacts, including ceramics, jewelry, textiles, and sculptures. It is a unique opportunity to learn more about the culture and legacy of the Inca people.
