The tour begins with pickup in Cusco, where you will travel on a tourist bus to Sicuani, a town located about 140 km away. The trip takes approximately 3 and a half hours, during which you will be able to observe changes in vegetation and climate. In Sicuani, you will stop to have breakfast and prepare for the hike to Huaqrapucara.
The trail is about 7 km long and has a moderate difficulty level. You will walk for about 2 hours, passing through agricultural fields, eucalyptus forests, and small rural communities. Upon arriving at Huaqrapucara, you will have time to explore the archaeological site and learn about its history and significance.
Huaqrapucara means “sacred fortress” in Quechua and was a ceremonial center dedicated to the worship of the sun and the moon. The place has a peculiar shape that resembles either a bull or a llama, depending on the angle. You will also be able to admire the panoramic view of the Apurímac River valley and the surrounding snow-capped mountains.
