Tipón: Start your day by visiting the Tipón archaeological complex, located about 27 km from Cusco. Tipón is known for its agricultural terraces, water fountains, and irrigation system, showcasing the Incas’ skill in hydraulic engineering.
Pikillacta: Next, head to the Pikillacta archaeological site, an ancient pre-Inca city dating back to the Wari period. Explore the well-preserved ruins, including residential structures, temples, and plazas. Pikillacta offers a fascinating insight into pre-Inca culture in the region.
Andahuaylillas: Stop in the town of Andahuaylillas to visit the Church of San Pedro, also known as the “Sistine Chapel of the Americas.” This colonial church is famous for its beautiful murals, sculptures, and Baroque decorations.
Raqchi: Continue towards Raqchi, where the Temple of Wiracocha is located. This impressive archaeological complex features a large rectangular structure dedicated to the Inca god Wiracocha. Explore the ruins and learn about Inca architecture and religion.
Oropesa: Make a stop in the town of Oropesa, known as the “Bread Capital.” Visit a traditional bakery and observe the bread-making process using ancestral techniques. You can also taste the delicious freshly baked bread from the region.
